Blacktip SHARC DSP/Data Acquisition Board

Due to issues with Analog Devices DSP third-party program this board has been discontinued. Signalogic's DirectDSP® and Hypersignal software still contain legacy drivers for the Blacktip and some BITSI modules.

Overview

The Blacktip brings Analog Devices ADSP-2106x SHARC DSP floating-point power to a low-cost ISA or PCI bus platform. The half-size PC-format board includes SHARC processor, up to 512K words × 48 bits of zero-wait-state SRAM, and a BITSI I/O mezzanine board site.

The SHARC processor is connected to an external processor bus, giving it direct access to the optional bank of SRAM and memory-mapped I/O devices on a BITSI mezzanine board site. Two SHARCNET external link port connectors allow the SHARC processor to communicate directly with other SHARC processors within the PC or in other systems. Four additional link ports connect to the BITSI mezzanine interface for high-performance data streaming. The Blacktip SHARC processor can also access serial devices on the BITSI using its two SPORTS (serial ports).

Primary applications are in the fields of acoustic and audio measurement and analysis, speech processing, vibration measurement and analysis, 3-D sound, signal synthesis, and applications requiring multiple sensors.

Blacktip Feature Summary

  • 33/40 MHz SHARC 32-bit floating-point DSP, with 64k x 32 onchip SRAM, and external bus access to expansion SRAM and BITSI I/O interface

  • Optional 128k or 512k external SRAM, either 32 or 48 bits wide

  • Two synchronous serial port connections to the BITSI mezzanine board I/O interface

  • BITSI I/O mezzanine site allows a wide range of analog I/O and digital I/O options

  • Two SHARCNET compatible external link ports (up to 40 MB/s each)

  • Supported by Signalogic  Hypersignal software

  • EZ-ICE® & ICEPAC™ in-circuit emulator compatible

  • Dimensions: 7" × 4.2" (4.5" with fingers) half-size ISA-bus or PCI-bus format card

Blacktip Software Support

The Blacktip is fully supported by Signalogic's Hypersignal®-Macro and Hypersignal-Acoustic software packages. In addition, both the board and Hypersignal packages can also be used with DirectDSP®, which offers C/C++, Visual Basic, and MATLAB® programming interfaces.  Used in conjunction with the Blacktip, the Real-Time Composer™/Hypersignal software combination provides sophisticated DSP-based instrumentation, visualization and display of waveforms, block-diagram based automation of development and test sequences, and numerous tools for all levels of DSP product, system, and algorithm development. The complete range of DSP/math functions, interactive waveform display and editing, difference equations, filter design, and real-time code development facilities offered by the software is fully active with the Blacktip. Display examples include interactive frequency domain waterfall and contour (joint time-frequency), .WAV display, pole-zero, unwrapped phase, and group delay.

Signalogic software takes full advantage of the multichannel capability of the Blacktip. Instruments can show any two of the four channels at once, and any number and combination of the four channels can be recorded and generated continuously to/from hard disk. Instrumentation includes digital oscilloscope, real-time spectrum analyzer, continuous signal generator (up to 4 channels), stimulus & response measurement, digital tape recorder, and more. The spectrum analyzer allows measurements such as transfer function (deconvolution), impulse response, and selective-band real-time digital filtering to be performed.

Additionally, the ADSP-2106x DSP Source Code Interface allows real-time code to be designed, simulated and developed for the SHARC, and results downloaded, tested and graphically debugged in real-time with the Hypersignal and Real-Time Composer™ software packages.
