Marketing Communication Job Description

About the Work Environment at Signalogic

Signalogic is located in Dallas, Texas, consists of less than 25 people and is a fun place to work. The environment fosters creativity and everyone is assigned a high level of responsibility. Signalogic is an equal-opportunity-employer, and provides equal-opportunity challenge for hard-working, creative, and result-oriented employees to distinguish themselves and advance. The environment is flexible and not constrained, and office politics are non-existent. No Dilberts.

When you work at Signalogic, there are three (3) general rules, no matter what is your job responsibility:

Marketing communication is very important at Signalogic, because we sell our engineering software and hardware products to all US states and around the world. This means we deal extensively with domestic and international distributors, trade publications and tradeshows, and numerous business partners. Perhaps most importantly, we are engaged in continuous improvement and additions to the Signalogic website.

If you work in marketing communication areas at Signalogic, your level of responsibility will be high. You will be assigned goals and objectives which are very important to the company's sales performance, corporate image, and relationship with its distributors and business partners. You will work directly with engineers in order to effectively present and describe the company's new products, and also with executives in order to understand the overall business picture and what are the company's marketing priorities.

And, you must be both a good "people person" and have good computer skills, which can also be translated as good attention to detail. You must be able to work smoothly with business associates by phone or e-mail, which means you must be articulate and your writing skills must be excellent. But, you must also solve problems--given a task, you must show creativity, resourcefulness, and persistence--we expect tasks to get finished, and with good results. The cardinal sin at Signalogic is to forget assigned tasks and be caught off-guard at our weekly status meetings. The next-worse is to drop assigned tasks because they are too difficult without at least asking for help, or spending some extra time to figure it out. In other words, we expect you to try your best. Working at Signalogic is not easy, but it is exciting, rewarding, and can be a lot of fun. Think you can handle it?

You will be expected to know (or learn fast!) a wide variety of tools, including Word, FrontPage, Excel, Power Point, Picture Publisher, Ventura (Corel), database packages, and more. You will especially be assigned many website- and Internet-related projects. You will be assigned press releases and newsletters, including both traditional printed format, and also e-format. You may be required to attend up to three (3) tradeshows each year (examples: San Jose, Boston, Toronto, Los Angeles), and up to five (5) 1-day or 2-day business trips (examples: Texas Instruments in Houston, Motorola in Austin, Analog Devices in Massachusetts, various customers in Los Angeles area).

When you work at Signalogic, there are three (3) general rules, no matter what is your job responsibility:

  • Show up. Be where other people expect you to be at the time they expect. If you have to, change the time and/or place.

  • Try. Don't forget things, or hope a problem goes away. Give it your best, spend some extra hours to research it, take pride in an above-average result. We like to say: "at a small company, there are no average employees". If Signalogic was average, we wouldn't be around for long.

  • Communicate. When you have a problem, ask for help. Make effective use of news groups and websites with good FAQs and tutorials to help you solve problems. Communicate also means to stay in touch with what is going on around you. One of the advantages of working at a small company is your chance to see the big picture and know what is going on. When you see something the company can do better, or you have a good idea, speak up!
